Our Classes

SYC offers classes for children aged 2½ through 5. All classes are 2½ hours long, and classes are offered in the mornings and afternoons. (Classes for 2½ year olds are only offered in the morning.) All morning classes are 9:15-11:45 a.m. and all afternoon classes are 12:45-3:15 p.m.

Our preschool program runs 32 weeks--from mid-September through the third week in May, with a 3-week Winter Recess and a 1-week Spring Break scheduled each year. There are 6 other school holidays scheduled throughout the school year.

For younger 2½ year olds (children who will turn 2 by September 30), we offer a one-morning-per-week Friday A.M. 2s class.

2-year-old classes each have 10 children and two teachers. The classes meet in the first two rooms of the north wing.

The 3's and 3/4 classes each have 18 children and three teachers. The classes meet in the last 3 rooms of the north wing.

The 4 and 4/5 Year Old Program:

We offer three classes for children who are 4 by September 30, and a special program for children who will turn 4 by March 30.

  • Monday-Wednesday-Friday A.M. 4's
  • Tuesday-Thursday A.M. 4's
  • Tues-Wed-Thurs-Fri P.M. 4/5's

These classes meet in the south wing of the building. Each class has 21 children and 3 teachers, except for the Tuesday-Thursday A.M. 4/3's class which has 20 children and 3 teachers.

The Tues-Wed-Thurs-Fri PM 4/5's class is geared to children old enough (or almost) for kindergarten whose parents have decided to wait an extra year before going on in their formal schooling.
